Meiji period (late 19th century), signed Dai Nihon Kyoto ju Komai sei
Of baluster form on a stepped base with pierced bracket feet, worked in gold and silver hirazogan with large shaped panels of monkeys in and beneath a tree, and a scene labeled in the upper right as Kachozan (the temple Chion-in), Kyoto, foliate scroll with phoenixes to shoulder and further foliate scroll above and on foot, geometric pattern with repeated panels containing various scenes to the sides, bands of gilt fretwork to lip and above the foot and a band of lappets and geometric pattern to the neck; inlaid signature on side above foot
