AN UNUSUAL WHITE JADE-EMBELLISHED WUMU RUYI SCEPTER
18TH/19TH CENTURY
The wumu (ebony) scepter unusually carved with froth-capped waves and rocks, and trailing vapor, all surrounding two white jade dragons confronted on a flaming pearl in the center, with a white jade plaque carved as a rock rising from waves at the tip, the openwork head also carved with waves that surround a white jade carp-form plaque
12¾ in. (32.5 cm.) long, cloth-covered stand, elaborate wood and glass presentation case
Provenance
Acquired in Hong Kong in the 1950s, and thence by descent within the family.
