Possibly from the Iskandarnameh of Ahmadi, gouache on paper heightened with gold, Alexander on horseback holding extended spear facing King Fur with mace in combat, two further mounted warriors in background, one with taught bow, other holding reigns of horse, some floral decoration in foreground, with 27ll. naskh verses in Persian divided into two text blocks above and below the miniature each with three text columns, mounted and framed, with areas of rubbing

Lot Essay

The style of this folio is similar to that of the miniatures in the majma' al-tawarikh by Hafiz Abru dating from 1423 AD. See for example one sold in these Rooms 11 October 2005, lot 43.
