Lot Essay

The current cup is representative of the first month of the Chinese lunar calendar, identified by the flowering wintersweet trees growing amidst lingzhi fungus.
The inscription reads:
Jinying cuinou dai chunhan, huangse huazhong you jiban, which may be translated as 'Spring frost adorns the golden flowers and verdant stem. But tell me, just how many yellow blossoms flower this time?'.
