8o (201 x 120 mm). 20th-century half calf.

FIRST EDITION. A reply to charges of incompetence levelled against General George Townshend for his conduct during the campaigns in Canada. Townshend succeeded to the command of the British forces after the death of Wolfe. Attributed to Edward Thurlow, afterwards Lord Chancellor, who maintained the right of Great Britain to tax the colonies and enforce its measures by arms, though DNB states that attribution is purely conjectural. Sabin 36905.
