A Fedora wooden hat block of slim oval form, with separate base, comprising a ridged crown with center rise and pinch front, produced by the milliner Jean Barthet in direct consultation with Michael Jackson to match the specifications required to produce his classic Fedora hat; MJ Chapeau No2 Modification 1988 hand written on the base in black marker pen and stamped Tino Re Paris; together with a black felt fedora hat made to Jackson's specifications, using the wooden block, marked on the inside head band in gold lettering Michael Jackson; accompanied by copies of press articles (French) mentioning Milliner Alexandre Barthet's career and his relationship with Michael Jackson (4)

According to the owner, Jean Barthet was introduced to Michael Jackson via a recommendation by Sophia Loren, for whom he had made several hats. In 1988 Michael Jackson visited Barthet, and an initial fitting was made at his Paris workshop. After sampling several different hats Jackson request was for a felt hat, in his classic Fedora style, and another fitting was organised. This wood was made specifically to match the requirements needed to make the hat to Jackson's specifications, and the hat included is an example of one of over 60 hats Jackson ordered.
