FOUR LOUIS XVI SNUFF BOXES
LATE 18TH CENTURY
Comprising a turned ivory box, the lid inset with a glazed grisaille roundel allegorical of love, the interior lined with tortoiseshell, the base fitted with a thread and inset with a portrait of a man to the reverse - 8 cm. diam.; a silver-mounted vernis-martin decorated papier mache box, with tortoiseshell lining, depicting Venus at her toilet - 8 cm. diam.; a vernis-martin decorated silver-mounted tortoiseshell lined papier mache box - with gold and white stripes centred by a cut-metal framed embossed paper roundel of a putto carrying flowers - 6.4 cm. diam.; And a brown lacquer tortoiseshell lined box, the lid inset with a minature of a lady holding a birdcage - possibly painted on marble - 7.7 cm. diam.
Together with a turned ivory snuff-box, probably German, circa 1830, the lid inset with a miniature of a lady - 7.9 cm. (5)
