Lot Essay

The education of Achilles is depicted in a fresco discovered at Herculanium, which is displayed at the Museo Archeologico Nazionale, Naples, however perhaps the best known depiction of the scene is that of the same title exicuted in the late 18th century by Jean-Baptiste Regnault (1754-1829), which hangs in the Louvre.
