A shaped lacquer box
Edo period (19th century)
The lacquer box in the form of an open book, with fitted lid and decorated in varicolored gold hiramaki-e, takamaki-e, kirikane and nashiji with mountainous landscapes, the underside of the lid decorated with a stag and doe beneath a tree on hirame ground, the underside of the box decorated with cranes in flight on a sparse nashiji ground, titled Ozan keisui no zu (Cherry blossoms and mountain streams)
3 7/8 x 5¼ x 2¾in. (9.8 x 3.3 x 7cm.)
