OTTOMAN TURKEY, CIRCA 1580
The square tile forming part of a larger composition, the white ground painted under the glaze in cobalt-blue, bole-red, tuquoise, green and white, with a cusped red outlining separating a turquoise spandrel filled with scrolling, flowering vine issuing red arabesque-filled palmettes, the central field with blue palmettes issuing from further vine on white ground, a border to one side, with interlacing vine of flowerheads and saz leaves on a cobalt ground, repaired breaks
