A LARGE PIERCED BRASS HANGING LAMP
PROBABLY DECCAN, 17TH CENTURY
Rising from conical base through an openwork dome-shaped section to wide flat shoulder and large octagonal section tapering body decorated in openwork, the slightly tapering openwork tubular neck with pronounced ring terminating in large round openwork finial, suspended on four chains attached to small circular disk, the openwork decoration with scrolling floral vine containing large floral sprays and geometric patterns, eight small cresent-shaped finials hanging from shoulder

This hanging lamp is most probably Deccani, 17th century and not Ottoman, 19th century as originally catalogued. A very similar comparable is published by Stuart Cary Welch in the catalogue that accompanied the Metropolitan Museum exhibition, India!, New York, 1985, no. 201, p.302.
