With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming that the movement of the present watch was manufactured in 1931. The watch was completed and encased in 1949 and sold on 18 October 1949. Furthermore delivered with an unsigned wooden presentation box and push pin.
Reference 699, the directed predecessor of the celebrated reference 844, is certainly amongst the greatest post war designs for complicated pocket watches, fascinating by its complex calendar and repeating mechanisms and captivating also by its wearable size.
To date, only three examples of this model have been offered publicly, including the present one.
A variation of reference 699, ref. 699/2, was fitted with the triple window for day, date and month indication. To date, only five examples of the latter have appeared in public. Ref. 699/3, the third variant, features a two train movement and the trip minute repeating released through a button in the crown. Only two examples of this model are known to exist to date.
