A WHITE JADE 'PINE AND SAGE' PENDANT
QING DYNASTY, 19TH CENTURY
Of rectangular form with lobed border, carved in shallow relief on one side with a sage holding a staff standing under a pine tree in a landscape, the reverse with a five-character verse ming yue song jian zhao, 'The bright moon shines between the pines', followed by two seals wen and wan, both sides surmounted with lingzhi scrolls and pierced for suspension, the stone of a white tone with icy inclusions

Lot Essay

Susan Hacker was secretary to the military aviator Lieutenant General Claire Lee Chennault who worked as an aviation trainer and adviser in China, and commanded the "Flying Tigers" during World War II.
