Carved in the round, modelled as a reclining lady wearing a voluminous robe, the legs gently crossed revealing her small shoes, one elbow resting on a pile of book scrolls in support of her head against one the side of her chin, the head turned outward as if in contemplation

Lot Essay

A jade carving of a reclining lady with similar treatment of the face and the folds of the garment around her foot is in the Qing Court Collection, illustrated in Jadeware (III), The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum, Hong Kong, 1995, p. 121, no. 101.
