The high back, with serpentine top-rail, and the stuff over seat covered in associated 18th century gros and petit-point on blind-fret carved square-section front legs with a conforming fret-pierced H-shaped stretcher, loss to stretcher

Lot Essay

The use of the parallel and x-cut fret in the stretchers of this chair is reminiscent of the work of the Edinburgh cabinet maker Alexander Peter, see two related lots; Dumfries House, Christie's London, 12 July 2007, lots 70 & 71.
