Lot Essay

The design of this table, particularly the inlay, is typical of the designs of Charles Bevan (d.1882), and often produced by the cabinet makers Marsh and Jones; for a related group of furniture see Christopher Gilbert, Furniture at Temple Newsam House and Lotherton Hall, Bradford and London, 1978, vol. II, pp. 394-406; also see lot 385 in this sale for a related pair of side chairs.
