MAGINI, Giovanni Antonio (1555-1617). Italia, data in luce da Fabio suo figliuolo. Bologna: Sebastiano Bonomi for the author, 1620. 2° (410 x 283mm). Etched hand-coloured allegorical title by Olivero Gatto within typographical border, 61 coloured engraved maps, 58 double-page. (Title chipped with small repair and waterstaining, a few leaves detached including title, occasional light waterstaining and soiling.) Contemporary vellum, red edges (worn).
SECOND EDITION with the engraved hand-coloured portrait of the author dated 1632. Magini's Italia was first issued in 1620 but the second and third edition retained the 1620 date on the title. Magini engraved most of the maps by 1613 and the atlas was substantially completed in his life time, but published posthumously by his son Fabio. It exercised an immense influence that led to the maps being copied within and outside Italy. The Nordenskiöld copy contains one additional map to the 61 called for in the index, a second map of Genova di Levante, not present in this copy. Graesse IV, 336; Nordenskiold 2 137; Shirley BL, T.MAG-1a.
