Of convex rectangular shape with thin applied borders and strap hooks, the surface of each decorated with large nasta'liq gold damascened inscription surrounded by scrolling vine in a border of rectangular cartouches containing further nasta'liq inscriptions on scrolling floral ground, palmettes in corners, the backs with original silk padding with floral pattern, converted into sconces

Lot Essay

The inscription in the cartouche at the centre of these body armour plates includes Qur'an LXI, sura al-saff, v.13, nasr min allah wa fath qarib, 'Help from God and Near Victory' and the bismallah.
