Lot Essay

Stu Levy describes the process of creating his 'grid-portraits' of artists and craftsmen as one of 'using several images contact-printed together to create a space and time scan of the subjects in their environments. In addition, references are made to the making of the photograph and to my own interaction with the subjects as I explore the process of perception and visual synthesis.'
Levy's work can be found in a number of important institution collections, including Cincinnati Art Museum, The High Museum, Atlanta, and George Eastman House, Rochester, New York.

Gift of the artist.
