Lot Essay

This form was introduced at the factory as early as 1751 and remained popular throughout the 18th century. The bowl was for serving broth or soup, the stand as a bread plate. Crowned interlaced L marks as on the present example were reserved for hard-paste wares made between 1770-1793.

Étienne-Jean Gremont fils is recorded as a flower-painter at Sèvres from 1769-1781, and Jean Chauvaux, le jeune, is recorded as a gilder and painter of patterns, 1764-1800.
