Lot Essay

Lélu visited Portugal around 1775. Other views of Cintra are in the Metropolitan Museum (J. Bean, 15th-18th Century French Drawings in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, 1986, no. 163), and in the Rijskmuseum, Amsterdam (formerly with Cailleux, exhib. cat., Rome 1760-1770. Fragonard, Hubert Robert et leurs amis, Paris, 1983, no. 42).
