Lot Essay

Boats are a distinctive feature of Kishangarh painting, shown in their expansive lakes against marbled palaces and lush landscapes. The paintings illustrate details like canopied seats and elephant head bows, as seen in M.S. Randhawa and D.S. Randhawa, Kishangarh Painting, 1980, pl. nos. I and XI, pp.14 and 34. The importance of this maritime vessel to Kishangarh is emphasized by the present example.
