A BRONZE FIGURE OF MANJUSRI SAMANTABHADRA
LATE MING DYNASTY, 16TH-17TH CENTURY
The bodhisattva is shown seated with legs pendent on the back of a recumbent elephant, and with the hands held in varada and abhaya mudras as they hold the ends of lotus stems that rise to the shoulders where they support a scroll and a book. The figure is wearing beaded jewelry and a jeweled crown.
