A ZITAN AND NANMU EIGHT-PANEL SCREEN
QING DYNASTY (1644-1911)
The screen is composed of eight rectangular panels that have zitan frames carved with borders of archaistic scroll surrounding the rectangular opening in the upper sections, which are above horizontal zitan panels carved on both sides with 'antiques', and lower nanmu panels carved on one side with various animals and mythical beasts, including a giraffe, and on the reverse with shou medallions encircled by bats. The legs are joined by shaped nanmu stretchers.
Each fold 80 in. x 16 in. (203.2 cm. x 40.6 cm.)
