AN IMPERIAL CLOISONNÉ ENAMEL CIRCULAR TRIPOD CENSER, LIAN
QIANLONG CAST FOUR-CHARACTER MARK AND OF THE PERIOD (1736-1795)
The circular body is divided into two bands: the top band is finely enamelled with three taotie masks, each framed by a pair of chilong picked out in soft tones of pink. The lower band is similarly decorated with taotie masks and chilong heads picked out in dark. The base is decorated with meandering scrolls with the cast four-character mark within a gilt square.

Lot Essay

A similar cloisonné enamel censer is illustrated by Joseph S. P. Ting and Vivienne W. Y. Hung, in the Hong Kong Museum of Art Exhibition, Chinese Antiquities from the Brian S. McElney Collection, 1987, no. 158, p. 22.
Another censer of very similar shape and dimension was sold at Christie's New York, 21 September 1995, lot 269.
