A RARE PARCEL-GILT QUATREFOIL BRONZE CENSER
CHENGHUA IMPRESSED SIX-CHARACTER MARK WITHIN A SQUARE AND OF THE PERIOD (1465-1487)
The vessel is finely cast in relief to each of the four lobed sides with a dragon breathing fire. There is a pair of upright 'S'-shaped handles to the sides. The censer is supported by four horned monster-mask legs.
5 7/8 in. (15 cm.) wide across handles

Lot Essay

A very similar censer, also with a Chenghua mark, was sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 1 May 2000, lot 763. It is however rare to find censers of this type with dragons spewing fire.
