FET, Afanasii Afanasevich (1820-1892). Liricheskaia Stikhotvoreniia. [Lyrical Poetry.] St. Petersburg: Brothers Panteleev, 1894.

2 volumes, 8° (214 x 152mm). Three portrait frontispieces of the author, and a reproduction of his hand. Dark brown half morocco, spines lettered in gilt (spines very lightly faded). Provenance: Alexander III of Russia (bookplates; Alexander Palace manuscript shelf label numbered '1402' over an earlier pencilled shelf-mark '73/2') -- an unidentified collection (stamp 'A No. 13403).

ALEXANDER III'S COPY, FROM HIS LIBRARY AT THE ALEXANDER PALACE, OF ONE OF RUSSIA'S FINEST POETS. This edition, though technically posthumous, represents the author's final statement of his best poetry. Fet had already prepared much of the edition, with the assistance of the poet Grand Duke Konstantin Konstantinovich, before life left him. (2)
