SABATO, Ernesto (1911-2011). El Túnel. Buenos Aires: Sur, 1948. 8° (188 x 125mm). (Margins yellowed, some light soiling, a few marginal spots.) Original black wrappers (spine creased, joints and spine caps rubbed, split and chipped, sides scuffed, extremities rubbed); modern case, probably by Cambras, covered in variously-coloured papers. Provenance: early readers (two indistinct signatures, one in ink, on the half-title) -- Ernesto Sabato (presentation inscription).
FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR, to a publisher: 'que quiere que se lo dedique a Borges, pero yo se lo dedico a [tu] con mi afecto'. El Túnel is Sabato's first major novel; it is one of the highlights of post-war Latin American literature, and was widely translated.
