Modelled after the Meissen original from the Cris de Paris series, standing beside a tree-stump, holding a lantern in his right hand and a basket of bottles in his left, in a black hat, a lilac cloak, yellow jacket, white shirt and green breeches, the base applied with flowers and leaves and moulded with gilt rococo scrolls (restoration to hat and handle of basket, chipping to leaves on base)

Lot Essay

The original Meissen Cris de Paris series of street-vendors was modelled by P. Reinicke and J.J. Kändler after drawings by Christophe Hüet. Work began in 1753 and it became the most extensive series made by the factory. The following lot is the companion figure to the present lot.
