Lot Essay

Forrest studied drawing under George Lambert and later both Paul and Thomas Sandby. In his will Forrest bequeathed to Thomas Sandby 'My drawing of Windsor Park, framed and glazed and another of Clifton [Cliveden] ..'. Given the unfinished state of the present drawing, it is not likely to be the one left to Sandby, but it may well have been a study for it. The back of the present drawing has been gone over, as if for transfer, which may suggest that it formed the basis of a more developed work.
