A WHITE JADE SHAPED PENDANT PLAQUE
19TH CENTURY
The plaque is carved on one side with a running boy carrying a large lotus stem, and on the reverse with the character xi (happiness), reserved on a matte ground within an oblong panel. The top is carved in openwork with a pair of confronted dragons.
2 9/16 in. (6.5 cm.) high

A boy (zi) carrying a lotus (lian) represents the wish liansheng guizi, 'May you have the continuous birth of distinguished sons.'
