FIRST EDITION of Ribadeneira's influential account of Henry VIII's break with Rome. He discusses the King, Anne Boleyn, the Princesses Mary and Elizabeth and other key players up to and including the death of Mary, Queen of Scots. The Jesuit author wrote to some extent from first-hand observations gained during his residences in England in 1558-59, including attendance on the dying Queen Mary Tudor. His account was immediately in demand and no less than 7 editions were printed in 1588. Palau 266268; Salva 3258 (note).
