Lot Essay

These Golden shoes were owned by the Dutch jazz singer Ann Burton (1933-1989). She wore them during a Fluxus manifestation in Amsterdam in 1965, where she performed alongside Yayoi Kusama. Afterwards, Kusama requested to have the shoes from Burton, to turn them into an artwork and gave them back as a birthday gift.
