The architect Piet Zanstra (1905-2003) was a moderate functionalist with a versatile body of work to his name, like the sober complex of studio houses at the Zomerdijkstraat in Amsterdam (1934). This complex is known as an early example of "het Nieuwe Bouwen" (New Building) and for this he was highly commended. Possibly his most famous project is landmark is the Europarking (De Billen van Zanstra) in Amsterdam from 1971, with the Guggenheim like drive way.
Margot Zanstra started her career as a ballet dancer as Margreet van Wilgenburg (1919-2010). After her studies in Paris, she joined the companies of the Scapino Ballet and the Ballet of the Dutch Opera. In 1965, after her dancing career, she became a successful sculptor influenced by amongst others Carel Visser (b. 1928) and Max Bill (1908-1994). She is well-known for her abstract works in bronze, stainless steel, aluminium, neon light and synthetic materials. She primarily worked on site-specific works on commission for the Dutch government and private collectors. Her scale models were produced in her studio. Her sculptures are displayed in Europe, America, Japan and Australia.
