AN OTTOMAN SWORD (KILIJ) WITH EUROPEAN BLADE
OTTOMAN TURKEY, 17TH CENTURY
With single-edged curved blade with four gutters narrowing to double-edged tip, hilt of typical form with curved pommel decorated with a band of engraved stylised scrolling vine, applied band of curved lozenge decoration on either side of the grip, wooden sheath with brown leather cover and three silver mounts, the belt fittings with elegant moulded ridged decoration, cusped terminals on either end
