Gouache heightened with gold on paper, verso with lines of multidirectional gold and polychrome découpé nasta'liq on blue ground with gold floral decoration, recto with later painting illustrating a gathering of ascetics in a leafy landscape, set on later card margins with silver and polychrome floral decoration and inscriptions in devanagari and nasta'liq

Lot Essay

Another panel with découpé calligraphy cut out by Hajji 'Abdullah was sold in these Rooms, 16 October 2001, lot 53. That panel was executed in 1649-50, ten years after ours.
