6 volumes bound in 2, 4o (285 x 200 mm). 6 vols. bound in two. Text in two columns (Italian and French), each with French and Italian title-pages with engraved border printed in red), all with 2-page list of plates in Italian and French, vols. 1, 2 and 3 with explanatory "Allegorie," vols.1 and 3 with author's note to the readers, 216 full-page engraved illustrations to familiar fables (36 in each volume, versos blank), numerous woodcut and engraved head- and tail-pieces. (A few marginal paper flaws.) Modern quarter morocco and period-style marbled boards, by MacDonald. Provenance: Ernesto Franco (bookplate); Chumbert (bookplate); acquired from Laurence Witten, 1974.

FOSSATI'S PLATES PRINTED IN VARIOUS COLORS: bistre, black, green, gray, and red. (A few marginal paper flaws). An extensive illustrated edition of fables, printed on fine handmade paper. A practicing architect, Fossati was also a prolific print maker and experimented with a wide range of colored inks. Cohen-de Ricci 410; Morazzoni p.232 (vols. 1 - 3 only); Rosenwald 1570.
