THE POMMEL POSSIBLY 16TH CENTURY
With broad slightly tapering double-edged blade cut on each side with two short fullers and incised with a central line terminating in short branches at the forte, long oblong ricasso, iron guard comprising fluted pointed quillon-block, long flat quillons each with punched and incised decoration on the stem and chiselled foliate tip with turned button finial, and large symmetrical side-rings each chiselled and decorated en suite with the quillons, moulded swelling leather-covered grip, and domed pommel chiselled in high relief with droplet-shaped mouldings alternatively decorated with overlapping scales and incised rings, later tang-button
