A GERMAN OR DUTCH DAGGER
LATE 17TH EARLY 18TH CENTURY
With slender tapering double-edged blade of flattened diamond section cut on each face for nearly half its length with a central fuller pierced with keyhole-shaped slots and incised with lines and a cross, and flanked on each side by two incised lines interrupted with series of dots, iron guard comprising rounded quillon-block with short arched lobed quillons, each engraved with bands of foliage, turned hardwood grip, apparently original, and flattened globular pommel engraved with further foliage, in black leather sheath, possibly slightly later, with pierced and shaped iron mounts
