Edo period (late 18th century)
Decorated in gold hiramaki-e [low-relief lacquer] with fruiting vines and leaf roundels on a black lacquered ground, the sides wrapped in cloth covered in red lacquer and small heart shaped apertures, the interior with a drop-in tray with further leaves in gold lacquer to the rims
