Lot Essay

This scene is most likely a depiction of the Treaty of Picquigny (19 August 1475), which officially ended the Hundred Year War. The present composition can be compared to the Marriage of King Louis XIII of France to Anne of Austria in the Musée des Augustins, Toulouse.
