A BAMBOO 'PINE' WATER POT
QING DYNASTY, 17TH/18TH CENTURY
The hollowed receptacle is carved around the sides with gnarled protrusions, nodules and scaly bark, with a stout pine branch rising to one side and dividing into subsidiary branches, each bearing clusters of pine needles enveloping the sides and resting on the rim. The base and the sides are incised with irregular ovals to simulate the whorls of the bark.
