A PAIR OF VENICE MAIOLICA DRUG JARS
CIRCA 1560-80, WORKSHOP OF DOMENEGO DA VENEZIA
Of globular form with a short waisted neck, one painted with a bust portrait medallion of a man facing to right, the other with a woman facing to left, the reverse of each with a three-quarter length portrait of a saint, the first Saint Antony, the second possibly Saint Francis, within similar medallions, reserved on a blue ground with scrolling foliage, flowers and sgraffito scrolls between blue line borders and yellow rims, one with branching crack to body, very minor rim chips and glaze flaking
10½ in. (26.6 cm.) high
