A SET OF THREE RELIEF-DECORATED BISCUIT PORCELAIN DESK OBJECTS
19TH CENTURY
One is a brush pot applied on one side with two butterflies fluttering amidst blossoming prunus branches, the base incised with an artemisia leaf. The other two are a water pot and a brush washer, both carved with landscapes.

Lot Essay

Compare the brush pot to a slightly smaller (13.1 cm. high) example, also with an artemisia leaf incised on the base, illustrated by T. Miller and H. Hui, Elegance in Relief: Carved Porcelain from Jingdezhen of the 19th to Early 20th Centuries, pp. 152-53, where it is dated Daoguang period.
