AN UNUSUAL RED-OVERLAY 'SNOWFLAKE'-GROUND BRUSH POT
QIANLONG WHEELCUT FOUR-CHARACTER MARK WITHIN A SQUARE AND OF THE PERIOD (1736-1795)
The cylindrical brush pot has a thick-walled body of densely bubbled translucent 'snowflake' glass covered with translucent ruby-red overlay on the exterior and the base around the countersunk 'snowflake' center inscribed with the mark. The sides are carved with a continuous landscape in which a bear peers up at an eagle perched in a pine tree on one side and a pavilion is perched on a rocky precipice above a waterfall beside a willow tree on the reverse, all interspersed with large stems of lingzhi sprouting from the rocks at the bottom.
