AN OPAQUE YELLOW GLASS INSCRIBED BOTTLE VASE
The somewhat compressed globular body is inscribed with four inscriptions set within borders of two pairs of dragons contesting flaming pearls carved in relief, all below a tall neck that rises to a lipped rim where three layers of glass are visible - a thin translucent layer of brownish-amber color sandwiched between the inner and outer opaque layers of mustard-yellow color, with irregular swirls of dark amber color on the neck. An apocryphal Qianlong seal mark is inscribed on the base.

Lot Essay

The inscriptions are poems and prose written by Lian Guozhi (1723-1786), an official during the Qianlong period, complementing the Kangxi Emperor's benevolent governance during his reign, including immediate disaster relief during times of flood and famine, and cuts in taxes.
