Lot Essay

The steamship Saint Paul was built in Philadelphia by W. Cramp & Sons in 1895 for the American Line and ran service between Southampton, England and New York. It was transferred to the United States Navy in 1918, renamed USS Knoxville and capsized in April of that year. It returned to the American Line in 1920 as the Saint Paul and was eventually dissembled for scrap metal in Germany in 1923.
