Abu al-Baqa' al-Musawi was a nasta'liq scribe from Abarqu who lived in Isfahan in the 17th century. He made a trip to India and died in Isfahan. Two panels by him are recorded as having been copied in Shah Jahanabad (Delhi), one of which sold at Christie's, 10 October 2006, lot 118. (Mehdi Bayani, Ahval va athar-e khshnevisan, vol. I, Tehran, 1345, pp. 22-24).
A presentation note on the reverse of the panel previously sold at Christie's is to Mirza 'Alikhan, the Heravi scribe, and gives the title Rustam al-Khattatin to Abu al-Baqa'. This title is recorded by Sanglakh in the 19th century as a title given to Abu al-Baqa' by Shah Abbas I.
