Opaque pigments and gold on paper, arranged around a large central rectangular medallion with an inscription in gold jali thuluth on red ground, with floral illuminated spandrels, the borders with further rounded medallions, the corner with the names of Allah repeated four times, between floral illuminated ground, the border with floral meander, mounted, framed and glazed

Lot Essay

The inscription in the central cartouche is from Qur'an XLVIII (sura al-fath), v.27 - Certainly has Allah showed to His Messenger the vision in truth. You will surely enter al-Masjid al-Haram, if Allah wills).
The inscription in the four oval cartouches is the Throne verse, from Qur'an II (sura al-baqara), v.255.
