A FAMILLE ROSE TURQUOISE-GROUND QUATREFOIL 'ABSTINENCE' PLAQUE
18TH/19TH CENTURY
The plaque is decorated to one side with a central panel containing the characters 'zhai jie', surrounded by a finely painted band of stylised lotus flowers with leafy scrolls reserved on a turquoise ground. The reverse is similarly decorated, with the characters written in Manchu script. The ribbed sides of the plaque are painted in gilt.
